FISHING CLUBS & FISHING ASSOCIATIONS

Fishing clubs and associations are a great way to stay informed about fishing issues and be involved in the preservation and regulation of the sport of fishing, as well as the preservation and regulation of fishing habitats.

American Sportfishing Association
Oregon South Coast Fishermen - A community based organization comprised of commercial/sport fishermen and the public spirited citizens of Brookings-Harbor in Southern Oregon. Established in 1975 our organization has been at the forefront of lobbying and finally succeeding in getting the Salmon and Trout Enhancement Program (STEP) organized. Our members actively support and volunteer our help all year round with ODFW in many projects designed to enhance our local rivers and fish breeding habitat that assists the local wild salmon and steelhead stocks to flourish. We also assist in participating with brood stock collection for our hatchery raised smoult program, that get released into the Chetco. Maintain a screw trap to collect data on salmon and steelhead smoult's returning to the ocean on both the Chetco and Winchuck rivers. We have links with other groups in Southern Oregon and assist them in their projects when they require it and involve ourselves in charitable projects in our community to raise awareness of declining salmon stocks and how they can ensure that this trend reverses. We meet once a month in the Brooking's Elk Lodge on the third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm. We have guest speakers, videos and tips on fishing the rivers, ocean and surf beaches of our area. Guests are always welcome and new members appreciated, especially if they can give up some of their time to volunteer in the many projects we run. If your new to Southern Oregon or want to find out how to fish, if you have retired here and want to try something new, come along to our meetings or ask in Lorings Lighthouse tackle store (Brooking's) how you can get in touch with us.
